The umbrella body for the Ijaws gave the warning during their national convention at Ofunama community in Ovia South West local government area of Edo State also bemoaned the gas flaring at Gelegele community and called on the various governments to either relocate the community or relocate the flaring site.
Spokesman for the council, Mr. Eric Omare said:
“At the Convention, Ijaw youths took critical decision that affect the
well-being of the Ijaw people and the Niger-Delta in general. Firstly,
the Ijaw youths condemn the continue flaring of gas in Gelegele
community”.
“The Gelegele people have been in this condition for more than decades, their health and social life is grossly affected. Some of them can’t sleep anymore. We condemn this and we have resolved government at the state and federal level must take drastic step either they relocate the Gelegele community or relocate the flare site.”
