The State Government of Kano has issued a letter of
appointment and presented the staff of office to the new Emir of Kano,
His Royal Highness Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
The presentation took place at the Government House Kano on June 9, 2014, and had top government officials, opinion leaders, business moguls of the city, as well as prominent politicians in attendance.
During his speech at the ceremony, Governor Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso declared that the new emir's wealth of experience and his connections with the current rulers of Nigeria gave him a decisive advantage.
The governor also debunked the allegations that appointment of the immediate past CBN Governor was a politically motivated move, adding that "The new emir was appointed on merit".
Kwankwaso assured that Sanusi's name had never smuggled into the list of contenders.

Meanwhile, riots over appointment of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi continued in Kano for the second day in a row. According to the recent reports, some schools have been shut and private jets at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano remained grounded.
