Paul Bassi representing the North East of the country, has insisted on capital punishment for those convicted of corruption.
He explained that such tough measure is the only way to tackle the high levels of corruption in Nigeria, Vanguard reports.
Commenting on the report of Committee on Agriculture, Bassi claimed that the big amounts of money stolen on a yearly basis could be used for developing agriculture.
Meanwhile the Committee on Agriculture and Water Resources urged the National Assembly to speed up the process of passing the currently pending Bill for the Establishment of the Nigerian Soil Science Institute.
According to the body, it is important to quickly address the issue of manpower shortage in the sector.
In connection with the Institute establishment the Committee urged the government also to review and amend the Land Use Act, which is one of the issues the resolution of which is pending in the course of the Conference.
